Punaista - Red

Pikku apulaisen kanssa istuteltiin vielä taimia pakkaamisen lomassa, kohta lähdetään hakemaan isommat muksut mummulasta. Auto täyttyy tavarasta ja imuroidakin pitäisi vielä. Koiralle mukaan harja, karvanlähtöaikana ilman sitä ei pärjää. Monetkohan kengät ottaisi, pärjäisinkö ilman keltaista paitaa kun laukun vetoketjut eivät mene ihan kiinni? Tiskit, roskat ja ikkunat kiinni, mitähän vielä unohtui? Ryntäilyn lomassa hetki kasvimaalla oli kuin miniloma sekin.

We planted some seedlings, the little helper and I. We've been packing stuff all day and soon we'll leave to pick up the older kids from their grandparents. The car is filling up and I still have to hoover the house. The dog needs her brush - it's shedding hair everywhere this time of year. How many pairs of shoes should I take? Can I manage without the yellow t-shirt 'cause the bags zipper won't close? Do the dishes, take out the rubbish, what am I forgetting? With all the rushing around a moment in the vegetable garden felt like a mini-holiday.

Pampulakoru - Bobble Necklace

Tämän solmiminen vei tovin. Selkä ehti kipeytyä ja takamus puutua mutta mukavaa puuhaa se oli kuitenkin. Pampuloiden seuraksi lisäsin lasihelmiä periaatteena mitä sekalaisempaa sen parempi. Symmetriasta en tykkää oikein missään asiassa ja tässäkin sitä tuli välteltyä ihan vanhasta tottumuksesta. Pampuloita vielä jäikin, seuraavaksi teen vähän värikkäämmän version.

It took a while to knot this. My back was aching and my bum became numb but I had fun making it all the same. I added a bunch of colourful glass beads to keep those bobbles company. Since I'm not a big fan of symmetry I avoided it the best I could and didn't pay too much attention to the colours matching, either. There are a few bobbles left and I'm thinking of making another one. More colourful this time.

Perjantai-iltana - On a Friday Night

Korunsolmintaa Herran Darcyn seurassa ihan rauhassa kun muut jo nukkuivat. Puoli yhdeltä takamus sanoi että jo riittää tämä lattialla istuminen, sänkyyn siitä hus! Jätskikulhon (mango-meloni) jälkeen siirryinkin nukkumaan. Koru valmistui puolimatkaan, tänään tulee ehkä valmista ja pääsen esittelemään pampulaisen luomukseni kokonaan...

Knotting a necklace and enjoying the company of one Mr Darcy while others were already asleep. At half past midnight my butt told me to kindly quit sitting on the floor and go to bed. After a bowl of ice cream (mango-melon) I did. The necklace is half done and I'm hoping to finish it tonight. Then you'll get to see this bobbles-and-beads creation in all its glory...

Filmitähti - Movie Star

No tätä ei satu joka päivä! Oven taakse tupsahti pariskunta jonka nainen kertoi syntyneensä pihasaunassamme ja tulleensa katsomaan vieläkö vanha kotitalo on pystyssä. No onhan tämä, ja tukevasti vielä. Meillä oli oikein mukava juttutuokio kun kiertelimme pihaa ja vähän taloakin, joka on ilmeisesti kahdeksan vuotta luultua nuorempi... Ympäristö on ehtinyt muuttua, tottakai, mutta moni asia oli vielä tuttua.

Well, this doesn't happen every day! A couple turned up at our door, the woman introduced herself and then told me she used to live here and had actually been born in our old sauna. She had come to see if her old home was still standing and was happy to see it still here. We had a nice talk as I showed her around the yard and the house (which, as it turns out, is eight years younger than we thought). The surroundings have changed, of course, but there were still a lot of familiar things around...

Mielenkiintoisia tiedonmuruja sain minäkin, kuten että silloin täällä asui kymmenen henkeä. Iso liuta tyttöjä, vanhemmat ja vielä isovanhemmatkin jos oikein ymmärsin. Hyvästellessä muistin yhtäkkiä tämän vintiltä remontin aikana löydetyn aarteen. Kävin noutamassa sen kirjahyllystä ja toin näytille.

I learned a few interesting things myself, like that back then ten people lived here. A bunch of girls, their parents and grandparents too, if I understood correctly. As we were saying goodbye, I suddenly remembered this little treasure we found when renovating the attic. I've kept it safe and now I showed it to the guests.

Niin kävi että tupakkiaskin pohjaan kirjoitettu nimi täsmäsi vieraaseeni ja komea filmitähti pääsi taas oikean omistajansa käsiin. Aika ihana juttu, vai mitä?

And so it was that the name written on the bottom of this tobacco package matched my visitor, and this handsome movie star returned to his owner. Pretty wonderful, don't you think?

Sadetta - Rain

Kuivuus on koetellut pihamaata tänä vuonna, mutta viimein on saatu sadetta. Kasvimaalla on päästy vasta nyt kunnolla kasvun alkuun. Kyssäkaalit alkavat muodostaa mystisiä möhkäleita, perunoihin ilmestyy nuppuja, ahomansikat rönsyilevät käytävälle ja sipulinvarret menevät takkuun. Satoa taitaa tulla sittenkin.

It's been a dreary summer for the garden. We had practically no rain at all for a couple of months but luckily the weather finally changed. The vegetable garden has started growing and is looking healthier. The kohlrabis are forming those mysterious lumps, buds are appearing on the potatoes, strawberries are reaching their stolons on the gravel and the onions are getting tangled up. There might be harvest after all.

Pihapuuhun on ilmestynyt kyyhkypariskunta. Emon tyytyväinen kujerrus kuuluu tuosta hatarasta risukasasta, mutta pikkuisten ääniä ei vielä.

A couple of doves moved in. The mother is cooing and seems to be pleased with that shaky looking nest of hers. No little ones yet.

Remontti osa2 Ruokahuone - Renovation part2 The Dining Room

Kesäinen löysäily jatkuu, joten otetaanpa taas remonttikatsaus :) Tällä kertaa käsitellään ruokahuone. Aloituskuvassa katsotaan ruokahuoneesta olohuoneen läpi leikkihuoneeseen.

Because I've mostly just been slackin around doing nothing creative, I'll treat you with another report of our renovation. This time it's about the dining room. In the first picture is the view from the dining room through the living room to the playroom.

Lattia oli tässä kammarissa oikein hyvässä kunnossa, mutta seinissä ikä kyllä näkyi. Kaksi ikkunaa toivat silti ihanasti valon sisälle, aivan kuten leikkihuoneessakin, mikä teki tilasta kodikkaan.

The floor was in a very good condition, but the walls were worn out. Still the two windows let the light in generously, just like in the playroom, and that gave this space a homely feel.

Tämän huoneen pönttöuunikin on hieman konservatiivisemman näköinen. Molemmat uunit ovat muuten käyttökuntoisia ja talvisin klapeja poltetaankin ahkerasti.

This fireplace was a bit more conservative colour-wize. Both are, by the way, used daily during winter.
Niin kaunis lian sävy tässä, eikö? Tästä purettiin epäkäytännöllinen kiinteä kaappi. Siinä oli pelkästään pitkä vaatetanko ja vain yksi pieni ovi keskellä niin ettei tangon päihin edes yltänyt kunnolla.

Such a nice shade of dirt, don't you think? An impractical closet was torn down here. It only had one rack and a tiny door in the middle so that it was impossible to reach to the sides.

Erilaisia kerrostumia löytyi täältäkin.

Layers, layers...

..Ja ne irtosivat yhtä helposti kuin muualtakin.

...And they came off just as easily as before.
Seinälevytkin olivat jälleen hyvässä kuosissa.

The walls were in good condition again.

Ja tässä laitetaan sitä samaa maalattavaa tapettia kuin leikkihuoneeseenkin.

And here the hubby is wallpapering with the same stuff we used in the playroom.
Uusi väri näkyy tässä! Tällä kertaa se osui oikeaan heti kerrasta ja tästä olen tykännyt todella paljon. Talvella tämä tuo ihanasti lämpöä talon pohjoispäässä olevaan kammariin ja keväällä sekä kesällä aurinko saa seinät oikein hehkumaan.

Et voilà, the new colour! This time I got it right the first time and I've really loved it. During winter the yellow brings much needed warmth into this room which is in the north end of our house. And during spring and summertime the walls are absolutely radiating sunlight.Niin, ensimmäisen talven ajan ruokahuone toimi vielä meidän vanhempien makkarina. Kuvia oli vaikea löytää kun kameralla oli tullut enemmän tähtäiltyä sitä pikkuista vauvaa, mutta tässä yksi...

During the first winter the dining room served as our bedroom. It was a bit hard to find pictures of it, as I was using the camera to capture the babys first months rather than the interior of our house, but here's one for you...
